National Novel Writing Month, 2009

National Novel Writing Month, 2009

By: Vineet Wal

nanowrimo_logoNaNoWriMo is a public commitment to write a 50,000 word novel within one month. That’s a 175 page novel! Yes, that’s right, within a month. The aim is for quantity and not quality. Now you might think this is a disaster waiting to happen.

But the philosophy behind NaNoWriMo is to get the creative juices flowing and not to hinder them in anyway. No worries about grammar, plot, character development and etc …. just pull the stopper until there’s nothing left in the tank.

They reckon that in order to meet the 50,000 word goal, you need to write at least 1,666 word each and every night … even those nights that by the time you get back home they are not really nights anymore.

So, let the juices flow. Take out the novel you know, you have within you.

In 2008, there were over 120,000 participants. More than 20,000 of them crossed the 50k finish line by the midnight deadline, entering into the annals of NaNoWriMo superstardom forever. They started the month as auto mechanics, out-of-work actors, and middle school English teachers. They walked away novelists.

Tens of Thousands have already registered at the NaNoWriMo site from all over the world. As of now more than three thousand of them are from India. They have accepted the challenge to try and bang out that novel which they always wanted to write.

Here is wishing them all the very best from Newzstreet
