Cyber gang busted in Noida, Rs.5.5 mn seized

Cyber gang busted in Noida, Rs.5.5 mn seized

Five men who siphoned off Rs 16.6 million from an industrialist’s bank account in this Delhi
suburb through Internet banking were arrested and Rs 5.5 million was seized from them, a police official said on Wednesday.

Pawan Kumar Agrawal, owner of M/s PPS International, lodged a complaint with the police on October 11.

He said that a sum of Rs 16,652,500 had been taken out from his company’s account being operated at sector-27 branch of Punjab National Bank.

He said that the theft took place while he was out of the country for 15 days. The money was siphoned off through about a dozen transactions from his account.

After returning from abroad, he was shocked to see his account statement, which showed that a huge sum of money was missing.

RK Chaturvedi, senior superintendent of police, Noida, said that they tracked the men involved in the crime to Goa, Pune and Mumbai.

The arrested men include Savio Dairoch Lobo, Mitul Trivedi, Bharat Bhai Patel, Udai Kapadia and Yogi Anjani Bhandar.

Lobo is a resident of Goa, Trivedi hails from Pune while the remaining three are from Mumbai.

The gang leader is yet to be arrested, said Chaturvedi.

Murderer posed as victim

Murderer posed as victim

NOIDA/GHAZIABAD: Abdul Saleem alias Islam “died” on February 21, 2002. His siblings recognised his charred body by the clothes and shoes he had
been wearing. Four years later, the “dead” man was arrested by Delhi police under the Arms Act - even as his neighbour was serving a jail term for “murdering” him.

The bizarre crime where a murderer sought to escape punishment by “posing” as the victim was unearthed by Noida police on Tuesday when Islam was arrested under the NDPS Act for possessing narcotics and according to police sources, confessed to the murder of his friend Zakir during the interrogation. Police officers said he told them that he had burnt Zakir to death and put his own clothes on the dead body. He then got his siblings to file his own “murder case” and name his neighbour Shamshad.

Shamshad, a resident Kallugarhi in Massoori police station area of Ghaziabad had to stay in jail for three years and two months, in two stints. He was eventually granted bail by the Allahabad High Court but Noida police made no attempts to withdraw the murder case even after Islam was arrested in 2006 by Delhi Police and the latter had, as per norms, informed their Noida counterparts about the arrest.

Massoori police chief, PK Singh, said, “This is an old case. I can hardly comment on this. But I believe that Islam had lived with Zakir for while and then relations between them soured. And, this why Islam murdered Zakir.”

Asked for his version on the matter, then Massoori police station chief Om Prakash Singh, who is currently posted ain Garhmukteshwar in Ghaziabad district, said, “It is an old case. I remember that a partially burnt and unrecognizable body was found near the Dasna bus stand. Then, on February 26, Islam’s two sisters and a brother, all of them from Kallugarhi, claimed to have recognized the body by the clothes and shoes. They also named Shamshad as an accused, in a report. I do not know what happened after that.”

Shamshad’s nephew, Arshad, told this correspondent, “Delhi Police personnel came to our house, with Islam. Shocked beyond words to see a dead man alive, about a hundred of our neighbours rushed to the Massoori police station. But, nobody listened to us. And, we were chased away with lathis.”

He said Shamshad, father of 5 children aged between 10 months to 11 years, sold his house to pay for his trial and has, since his release, been unemployed. His 11 year old son studies in class II as his schooling got interrupted several times. His daughter died of dengue while he was in jail.

Police said Islam had, in 1984, been arrested for committing a murder in Baghpat, his native town. Then, for some years, he moved to Loni in Ghaziabad and then to Dasna to live with Zakir, whom he later allegedly burnt alive. After murdering Zakir, he went to Kolkata for a brief while but soon returned to western UP.

Prosecution proceedings against Shamshad are still on in the Ghaziabad sessions court. The SHO of Noida’s Sector 58 police station, Dharmendra Kumar, who happened arrested Islam for carrying narcotics, and later learnt that he was “officially dead”, said, “We just happened to arrest Islam. And, then, during interrogation, he told us of his own ‘murder.’ Now, the Ghaziabad police have to book his relatives for their role in the impersonation, and suppression of evidence.”

For Shamshad meanwhile, his travails are far from over. “There is even now an arrest warrant in my name and this is because I could not go for one hearing.”

Hotel officials arrested for threatening guests in Noida

Hotel officials arrested for threatening guests in Noida

NOIDA: A manager and an assistant manager of a five-star hotel in Noida were arrested on Tuesday night for “shouting at and threatening to kill”
a group of guests after they complained about finding a human hair in their food. Reportedly, one of the four guests was a senior IPS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre.

Revealing this, Noida superintendent of police (city) Ashok Tripathi said, “Four persons were having a meal at the hotel in Sector 18 around 11 pm. While eating, they noticed a hair in the dal. They complained about it to the restaurant staff. However, manager Gyan Prakash and assistant manager Vibhu Wadhawa shouted at them, threatening to kill them if they stayed at the counter any longer. But the area police reached the spot before things could worsen.”

Tripathi added, “The waiters were alright. But, the executive staff misbehaved with the guests to such an extent that we had to arrest the two.”

The two hotel officials spent the night in the Sector 20 police station lock-up and were granted bail on Wednesday morning.

According to the police, an arrest under Section 151 of the CrPC applies when there is a real danger of the accused committing a cognizable offence. Meanwhile, hotel officials could not be contacted for comment.

It Might Be The Best Time To Invest In The Real Estate But Do We Feel That It Will So?

It Might Be The Best Time To Invest In The Real Estate But Do We Feel That It Will So?

In current scenario many developers and industry experts feel that this might be the best time to invest in the real estate but do we feel that it will so? Before one year, we all know that real estate was booming and the rates are on their peak but in present these are going marginally down. In point the recent changes many investors are waiting for correction in market. Till the time we can say that the recent crunch has given a good opportunity to exisiting buyers in terms of cash discounts, freebies, free cars, free car parking, No PLC, No EMI till possession etc.

With the worldwide financial crisis playing havoc in the US and European markets, India too is keeping its fingers crossed. Tremors are being felt everywhere - from the stock markets to the rupee exchange rate, and from the spiralling inflation to homeloan interest rates. People don’t seem to have any idea, especially on the eve of a most important festive season. This festive season, owing to the market meltdown, property developers are offering a lot to by way of special discount bonanzas, which include free covered parking space or exemptions from preferential location charges even free cars.

Looking at the market mood, developers have resorted to more innovative ways. For example, discounts are given on the rate per sq ft of the property, reducing its cost. Main discount offers have come up for corporate employees where the developer has their tie-ups. Recent example for the same is SVP group who has started to offer Rs 40 per sqft discount or 10% discount in booking amounts.

The other offerings by the SVP group are 50GM gold coins, Holiday EMIs, No EMI till possession etc.

Feeling the liquidity heat: DLF, Unitech

Feeling the liquidity heat: DLF, Unitech

The realty sector has been one of the worst hit in the face of slowdown. High interest rates and a severe cash crunch have hit realty companies hard.

But for India’s largest real estate developer, DLF, the going is still steady. With a land bank spread over 32 cities, the realtor continues to tap emerging markets.

Operating across various verticals of real estate, the realtor has carved a distinct niche for itself over the years.

Differentiation and identifying growing avenues ahead of competition has made the real estate developer a market leader.

It announced a profit of Rs 18.64 billion during the first quarter of fiscal year 2008, a growth of 23% from the corresponding period last year.

Unitech, the second largest listed real estate developer in India, has a pan-India presence.

With a land back of about 16,000 acres, the developer also has major infrastructure construction projects to its credit.

However, in times of a slowdown, the realtor has changed its product portfolio.

“Our focus has been more on affordable housing in range of Rs 40 lakh-Rs 70 lakh in NCR. The demand is more in this segment now and has slowed down in luxury apartments,” says a Unitech spokesperson.

The realtor is, however, facing a severe cash crunch. Recent media reports said that the realtor has defaulted on two payments worth Rs 150 cr to the Greater Noida Authority on a housing project.
