The bottlebrush tree

The bottlebrush tree

By: Vineet Wal

bottle-brushThe bottlebrush tree, originally from Australia, is a small, magnificent, evergreen belonging to the family Myrtaceae, and is also called Callistemon.

It grows superbly in the regions where the climate is warm, humid, and receive full sunlight. The north Indians plains fulfil these requirements adequately, especially at the onset of summer.

Many people prefer bottlebrush trees in their gardens as it provides a stunning look and colour.

The presences of bottlebrush trees make the surroundings calm, serene and relaxing. Though they require little care, they are always there to please you with their charming presence, especially when they are in bloom. The majestic appearance of the bottlebrush tree invites you to describe it in rhyme.

In brilliant red colour

Amidst a green leafy gown

Bottle Brush has bloomed

Bringing summer to town

All along the roads

On trunks dark brown

From thin tender branches

Hanging upside down

Fiery flowers of Bottlebrush

Sparkle like jewels in a crown.
